HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR HEADSHOT SESSION

A BRIEF THOUGHT: NEARLY EVERY CLIENT HAS ONE THING ON THEIR MIND WHEN THEY ARRIVE AT THE STUDIO FOR THEIR HEADSHOT SESSION:

“I HATE HAVING MY PICTURE TAKEN”.

BUT LET’S BE HONEST, WHEN YOU LOOK GOOD IN AN IMAGE, IT’S A GREAT FEELING AND THAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HATING IT AND LOVING IT.

Let’s do this

General

Come to the session knowing that you will look good and you will have fun. We aren’t your typical photographers, nor should you expect us to be. We are not ‘click and done’ photographers, we take time with every image and are very deliberate and prescriptive in our approach. We understand the subtle nuances that make the difference between an incredible shot and an OK one. We create images that will change the way you see yourself. Our headshot sessions are a combination of good discussion, candid feedback, positive energy, and most importantly, trust. We want to understand what makes you unique and we want to capture that in an image that engages viewers and makes them want to know more about you.

Two Weeks before your Shoot

Stop by a respected clothing store and get some advice on fashion.  Places like Nordstrom offer Personal Stylists and you can even book an appointment with them online.  Totally worth it!  OR, if you’re the fashion savvy type, do your thing.  You know what works!

One Week before your Shoot

If you’re going for a haircut, now is the time.  Hair tends to look best about one week after the cut.

The Day of your Shoot

Gentlemen:

  • If you normally go for the clean shaven look, make sure you shave within a few hours of your session.  If you have an afternoon session, skip shaving that morning and do it before your session.  This will give you the cleanest look.
  • If you you have a beard, clean up the edges of your beard before you arrive.
  • Take a moment to trim your nose hairs (I told you I’d be candid, you’ll thank me later)
  • Bring a toothbrush if you plan to eat before your session. You don’t want to have food in your teeth.

Ladies:

  • If you do any facial waxing or other hair removal methods, make sure you give your skin enough time to recover before your session.  Sometimes these processes can leave skin red for a bit.
  • Bring a toothbrush if you plan to eat before your session. You don’t want to have food in your teeth.
  • If you’re interested in Makeup Artist for your session.  We have them, let us know.  We’ll ensure you have the best.

Before you arrive

Take some time for yourself.  Do something that takes you to your happy place.
